Shade's Company History Shade Equipment Company, Inc. of Winchester, Virginia was founded in 1947 as an agricultural equipment dealership with truck equipment as a secondary line. In the early 1960's, Shade Equipment began changing its equipment format from agricultural to industrial while continuing to develop its truck equipment lines. Our lawn & garden lines are descended from our agricultrual roots. Shade Equipment began to phase out the industrial equipment lines, while increasing emphasis on truck equipment during the 1980's. By 1986, Shade Equipment's Harrisonburg branch was opened to better serve the southern Shenandoah Valley and the Piedmont region of Virginia and areas of West Virginia. In 1994 the Harrisonburg branch was moved to it's present location. In 1999, Shade Equipment became a Dodge Truck Pool Dealer. To serve Shade's growing sales volume, the Winchester location built an additional service facility and added a "state of the art" paint facility. In 2000, the Winchester location was recognized by the Virginia Department of Labor for its excellence in Occupaitonal Safety and Health by the presentation of the S.H.A.R.P. award. In 2002, the Harrisonburg branch also received this award, making Shade Equipment the only company with two S.H.A.R.P. approved locations in Virginia. At present, Shade Equipment has 43 employees and represents more than 50 manufacturers of truck bodies, truck equipment, snow plows, ice control equipment and lawn and garden equipment, serving the four-state area of VA, WV, MD, and PA.
